Job Description

This position is responsible for working with and supporting the department supervisor in the efficient operation of a press area to meet the customer order requirements as well as the safety and OEE expectations established by management. The scope of the job includes team job assignments, quality, safety and standard work audits, changeover, mold clean and stock planning and accurate production reporting.

Job Responsibilities

  • Department OEE & Standard Work Performance:

    • Relay information to operators regarding performance expectations, production needs and safety standards as directed by supervisor.

    • Enforce work rules and safety policies.

    • Monitor production for quality and standard work compliance. Respond to andon lights and react to problems. Work with operators to meet performance standards and implement changes in standard work or work instructions to improve quality or performance.

    • Review operator weekly performance reports and coach operators. Work with supervisor as needed to address ongoing poor performance.

    • Review OEE daily and identify areas for improvement and communicate to operators.

  • Safety:

    • Enforce established safety standards and policies. Review requirements with operators and issue disciplinary warnings, when necessary. Report non-compliances to supervisor.

    • Encourage department employees to suggest safety improvements and document them on the gemba board.

    • Work with department employees and supervisor to implement safety improvements.

    • Serve on Safety Committee, 1 quarter every 2 years.

  • Auditing:

    • Perform line audits two times per shift. Line audits include safety, 5S, and standard work compliance, and quality. Complete the audit check list.

    • Write an NCR for non-compliance; work with employees on corrective action.

    • Review the audit checklist with the supervisor on a daily basis.

  • Training:

    • Assign training of new operators according to the training plan established by the supervisor.

    • Participate in and oversee training of new operators and report progress to the supervisor. Coach trainers and trainees per the training plan and Company methodologies.

    • Assist the supervisor in evaluating new employees. Communicate strengths, areas for improvement and production and quality results.

  • Production Reporting:

    • Enter receipts, as required, throughout the shift.

    • Enter heats at the assigned time.

    • Lead employees in department gemba and reflection meetings.


Job Skills Requirements:

  • Knowledge of manufacturing equipment, procedures and production/quality standards.

  • Lean manufacturing experience preferred, but not required.

  • Demonstrated ability to work with multiple departments to ensure on-time delivery of quality product.

  • Ability to read, interpret and explain work orders, work instructions and standard work.

  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills to interact with and motivate a diverse group of employees.

  • Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of personnel and production problems.

  • Proficient computer skills and familiarity with associated production paperwork.

  • Ability to work in a busy, fast-paced production environment, often under time constraints.

  • A collaborative demeanor, able to create teamwork and mutual respect between departments and shifts.

Education Requirements:

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.

  • Associate’s Degree or some technical school preferred but not required.

Experience Requirements:

  • 5 years manufacturing experience

  • Prior leadership experience is a bonus.
