General Summary:

This 2nd Shift assistant supervisory position is responsible for working with and supporting the department supervisor in the efficient operation of the assembly area to meet the customer order requirements as well as the safety and OEE expectations established by management. The scope of the job includes safety, quality, team job assignments, standard work audits, line changeover, training, planning and accurate production reporting.

Principle Responsibilities:

  • Review performance expectations, production needs and safety standards daily

  • Train, coach and enforce disciplinary policy, work rules and safety policies

  • Assist supervisors in conducting root cause investigations on incidents

  • Implement process improvement safety initiatives

  • Perform line audits, inspect molded and purchased raw materials, ensure proper labeling for containers

  • Assign training of new team members according to the training plan established by the supervisor

  • Participate in and oversee training of new employees and report progress to supervisor

  • Coach trainers and trainees per the training plan and company methodologies

  • Participate and lead departmental gemba walks and reflection meetings

  • Review hourly production tracking sheets and quality requirements

  • Communicate with employees, supervisor and scheduling on production requirements and/or issues

  • Identify inventory levels and report needs to supervisor

  • Create daily job assignment schedule for employees and adjust rotation schedule

  • Communicate and assist supervisor with addressing employee attendance concerns

  • Initiate disciplinary action, up to written level and advise supervisor of situations requiring discipline beyond that level

  • Participate in kaizen events and triumph process improvement initiatives

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required:

  1. High School Diploma or equivalent.

  2. Prior leadership experience is a plus

  3. 3-5 years manufacturing experience

  4. Willingness and ability to work on an extended work week or weekends.

  5. Must possess or be able to obtain certification to operate a fork lift.

  6. Ability work in a manufacturing environment for long periods of time, including walking, bending, sitting, standing and lifting 50 pounds (with assistance).

  7. Proficient computer skills and familiarity with associated production paperwork.

  8. Ability to work in a busy, fast-paced production environment, often under time constraints.

  9. A collaborative demeanor, able to create teamwork and mutual respect between departments and shifts.

  10. Knowledge of manufacturing equipment, procedures and production/quality standards.
