Job Description

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES:

The Quality Engineer works towards continuous quality improvement, process control, material efficiency, and start-up of new product production. Quality Engineer is expected to focus on improving quality processes associated with manufacturing, packaging with the goal of reducing customer complaints using excellent skills in communication and problem-solving.

  • Attend DPAR meetings

  • Promptly quote and order gages for new and production parts

  • Works with the Quality Technician on developing PPAP documents and submit to customer: Control Plan, ISIR, material/steel certification, PFMEA, flow charts, warrant

  • Communicate with the customer for required PPAP documentation and some quality issues

  • Collect and verify certifications from vendors (steel, heat treat, plating…)

  • Works with the Quality Technician to update control plans as revisions are made

  • Issue and maintain quality alerts

  • Maintain and track MDRs labor scrap costs

  • Create MDR card and sort/rework operation in visual

  • Scan and file daily audit sheets

  • Follow up for MDR resolution and attend MDR meeting

  • Monitor quality data from Product Incident Report process, Manufacturing reports, Service reports and customer input

  • Work with the Quality Manager to determine corrective action on quality issues

  • Work with process engineering to continuously improve processes

  • Disposition questionable parts accordingly

  • Apply the 5 Why’s method of problem solving to determine root cause and apply corrective action

  • Back up for the Quality Manager and also fill in for other positions in the Quality Control department

  • Prepare reports by collecting, analyzing, and summarizing data; make recommendations to Quality Manager

  • Assist Quality Manager in establishing, implementing and maintaining the quality management system

  • Conduct internal audits as assigned by Quality Manager

  • Analyze failure, corrective and preventive action to respond to customer complaints

  • Ensures key processes demonstrate a Cpk >1.33 or better

  • Perform Gage R&R and capability studies when required

  • Coordinate and develop appropriate training materials in areas related to quality

  • Consistently produces results that exceed expectations in time frames that benefit our customer

  • Exemplify integrity and influence others with respect to company culture, ethics and procedures

  • Behave in a professional manner that always represents the Company in the highest ethical standard

  • Maintain a clean and safe working environment

  • Perform other duties assigned by Quality Manager

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE:

A minimum of 3 years of Quality or Engineering in a machine shop lead position is required. Familiar with gages: dial calipers, micrometers, optical comparators, dial bore gages, and CMM. Must be familiar with the ISO 9001 standardes. Must be able to read blue print and comprehend customer specifications. Must have good communication, computer, problem solving and organizational skills. Communicate with customers on quality issues, corrective and preventative actions. Have interaction with department supervisors on quality issues. Must be able to lift up to 40 pounds without assistance, reaching, bending and standing for long periods of time is also required. Availability for overtime hours as needed. Pass company prescreening assessments.
